Despite more than 40 years of experience, a lot of studies have been performed the last decade, and there are still more to come. The main focus has been on material characteristics and behavior, all the way from testing in laboratory scale to the final construction on site.
A 3 years InterNordic project LWA geolight utilizing local experiences and aiming for more harmonized technical solutions for the use of Expanded Clay LWA in as insulation and lightweight fill in road and railways. Papers from this project have been presented on several International conferences.
Based on the Nordic experiences and increased interest from new countries, it was decided to develop a CEN European standard. The product standard Lightweight fill and thermal insulation products for civil engineering applications (CEA). Expanded clay lightweight aggregate products (LWA) is now launched for CEN enquiry.
